“Sumer Is Icumen In” is a traditional English round, and possibly the oldest such example of counterpoint in existence.
Modern Translation
Summer has come in,
Loudly sing, Cuckoo!
The seed grows and the meadow blooms
And the wood springs anew,
Sing, Cuckoo!
The ewe bleats after the lamb
The cow lows after the calf.
The bullock stirs, the buck-goat turns
Merrily sing, Cuckoo!
Cuckoo, cuckoo, well you sing, cuckoo;
Don’t you ever stop now,
Sing cuckoo now. Sing, Cuckoo.
Sing Cuckoo. Sing cuckoo now!
So - now with that little lesson in Music History … I just wanted to thank everyone who has been able to make it to lessons and is still putting in all the efforts to listen to their CDs/iPods and to get their violins out and practice everyday. It’s a daily habit like learning to brush your teeth.
Things to do to avoid Summer Suzuki Mom and Dad burnout -
1) Re-read Nurtured by love or simply peruse a few pages
2) Watch Dr. Suzuki teach.
3) Come to Group Class (Saturday June 28th at 8:30 Pre-Twinkle to Early Book One, 9:00 Big Group Class)
4) Attend a Suzuki Institute
5) Relax and enjoy the process.
And thank you to everyone for being my students!
Love, Suzanne
Thank You to everyone who waited and listened and practiced during institute these last few weeks!
Please remember that GROUP CLASS (with our new pianist Lisa) is coming up on JUNE 28th at 9:00 AM!
Next Year, I love for us all to attend the 15th INTERNATIONAL Suzuki Convention in Australia. Koji Toyoda will be teaching there. And Yuriko Watanabe, my Senpai. It is Wednesday 15 to Sunday 19 April 2009.
Also, I would love for a group of us to attend a Suzuki Institute with fewer students. I have searched around for an Institute. I have looked for Institutes with Master Teachers and Sensei who support Suzuki Method who teach in the way I would like all of my students to be nurtured and brought up.
There are two Institutes that look very hopeful!
#1 The Japan America Suzuki Institute in Seattle Washington. We would stay in the dorms! (Sound like fun??) http://suzukiassociation.org/events/loc/133/
Many of the teachers and students come from Japan. Fumio Kawanuma was one of Dr Suzuki’s favorites and she is on the Faculty. Also Brian Lewis teaches there! He is my good friend and definitely has the training and the Suzuki Spirit! It seems that these faculty members go every year (I saw a 2005 brochure and they were on the Faculty list back then as well!)
What do you think?
#2 Also - this looks good - Santa Rosa California (information from Donna Lim, my dear friend who was RECENTLY MARRIED!) It is also called the
Northern California Suzuki Institute. (That is a big PDF file)
Masoaka Sensei will be there from Japan with her students. She is AMAZING! She taught us in Japan.
Other Institutes are smaller (100 to 200 students total) and less expensive tuition wise. Although we will spend more money on travel, we will spend less on gas in the long run, don’t you think?! I will continue to research and I ask you to please help me. Onnegaishimasu.
Love, Suzanne
Hi Students and Parents
Those of you who are attending Institute or observing Institute, maybe I will see you there! Please do your best!! I am sure I will be very proud of each of you
Otherwise, please practice with your DVD’s at home and get really prepared for our next lesson the week of June 23rd.
Also, Group lesson will still be at 9:00 AM according to the Poll votes (The only poll that seems to work is this one - I’ll just remove the one on the left. I apologize about that. So far only 4 people have voted…)
So -
Twinkle + Early Book One Group at 8:30 AM June 28th
Regular Group Class at 9:00 AM June 28th
At Group class, one of the things we will prepare will be some Fiddle Tunes on the list for the Salt Lake Area SAU Super Activity. Since most places are sold out of the Fairfield Fiddle Farm Book by now and it is back ordered … I have engaged in a bit ‘o skulduggery ![]()
You may find it here…
Once you all BUY the books, then that will no longer exist of course… Thanks!
Thanks again to everyone who has paid me the fees for SAU! And thanks for listening to your CD’s and practicing with the DVD’s we’ve made in your lessons.
See you at institute…
Love, Suzanne
Group class was VERY fun! Thank you so much to everyone who came and I appreciate everyone going along with the new policy re. group class payment.
Please plan for the next group class on June 28th. We are still planning on 9:00 AM for Group Class in June at this point (please vote to the left.) We will do many Fiddle tunes. Please buy the book in order to prepare.
Utah Symphony tickets are $8.00 for students. Concerts begin again on Monday, June 30th. Since environment is so important in Suzuki Method ,
Man is the Son of His Environment ~Suzuki Sensei
I strongly encourage students to attend Utah Symphony Concerts, especially the Salute to Youth Concert on September 30th. Most of the students were raised in Suzuki Method.
Please let me know if the Trumba Calendar is out of date. I am just learning how to program the times etc. Thank for your patience!
Enjoy the Spring and practice well. Thank You so much to each and every one of you!
When shall we have a Solo Concert in August? (including Summer Presto from Vivaldi’s Seasons)? Any ideas? When are your vacations? Please send email to me to let me know…
Love, Suzanne

I appreciate your understanding. My time and cost for pianist is the same no matter how many students attend.

IS the fact that I am going to the SAA (Suzuki Association of the Americas) Conference “Expanding the Vision” from May 22rd to May 27th… So we will NOT have lessons during these dates. I expect that you will all continue to LISTEN and STUDY everyday at home anyway, right??

Hi Everyone
Group lesson is scheduled for May 31st at 9:00 AM - Lightly Row and up
Twinkle and Pre-Twinkle Group is at 8:30 to 9:00 right before.
Would a parent like to bring refreshments??
Thank You everyone for coming last week -it was wonderful!
I have learned about some new bows that
1) play beautifully
2) are basically unbreakable
3) help to conserve the rainforest
They come in fractional sizes.
JonPaul Bows

Please get the CarbonFiber type. Summerhayes or Peter prier’s has them. Summerhayes will probably have the best price - work with Sandra Betti if she is there. I have heard of student’s bow breaking recently which worries me so I suggest students try to acquire one of these beautiful, unbreakable bows.
Here is a Birthday Poem from Maya :
‘Tis a Wonderful World
‘Tis a wonderful world it is oh yes.
It is a magical world with flowers that blossom
like the rainbow
and clouds in the sky
that flow
like the rivers.
If any other students wish to participate in Federation next year, I would be thrilled!! I have already joined the UFMC for next year! The solos will probably take place in April of 2009 (!) at Gardner Hall at the University of Utah, so if you would would like to participate, let’s plan ahead!
Also Congratulations to Cassandra who made it all the way to
at her High School, District and Regional Finals for Violin Solos!
